KATT
Our Kink Aware Therapy Training (KATT) is focused on empowering the third person view with an understanding of how non-normative practices appear and are practiced in a healthy environment.
KATT provides higher level educational instruction and community-informed resources designed to help counselors, therapists, and allied professionals better understand kink, BDSM, and consensual power exchange.
This class is about the theory side of kink. And while the examples we use are informative, they are only glimpse of one perspective and in no way represent the way things should be.
Our goal is to bridge gaps in knowledge, reduce stigma, and support professionals in delivering competent, affirming care to clients who engage in or are curious about alternative expressions of intimacy and identity.
What KATT Offers
KATT provides comprehensive continuing education opportunities, including up to 10 CEU hours, through evidence-informed workshops designed to support professional development and licensure requirements. These trainings offer clinical perspectives on kink and BDSM, helping professionals distinguish consensual practices from harm while gaining a deeper understanding of subcultural norms and common misconceptions. Participants are introduced to practical communication and consent models that can be integrated into therapeutic settings to support client autonomy, negotiation, and safety. In addition, KATT offers valuable community insight and context, giving professionals exposure to the language, values, and real-world experiences within kink-informed communities.
Why It Matters
Many clients engage in or are exploring nontraditional relationships and expressions of intimacy, including kink and consensual power exchange. Without adequate training, these experiences are often misunderstood or unintentionally pathologized within clinical settings. KATT supports professionals in developing cultural humility and competency, reducing bias and stigma, and creating safe, affirming environments where clients feel seen and respected. By increasing understanding of these dynamics, clinicians can strengthen therapeutic relationships and improve overall outcomes for the diverse populations they serve.
