What is a Munch?
A munch is a casual social gathering for people involved in or interested in BDSM. Munches often take place at a restaurant, bar, or coffee shop; the organizer usually reserving a large table, a back area, or a private room. Our munch is typically at the Raven Bar (7:30pm Thursday Nights). Munches are free and no membership is required. If you are just getting started, a munch is the best place to begin!
People are free to arrive and leave anytime within the specified hours. The primary purpose is socializing, although our munches also have announcements or demonstrations from local organizations or individuals. Munches are meant to help those who are curious about BDSM meet others, become more comfortable, and better informed. Munches can also be a place to get advice or talk about your kink freely.
Unlike a play party, most munches are informal affairs that discourage fetish attire or BDSM play. Though leather attire is welcome, as some munches may have a Bootblack in attendance offering their leather care services. You are welcome to wear whatever you want to the Raven (law permitting).
Munches can be very specific to their region, city, or neighborhood. Each munch is different and reflects the personality of the group that attends it. Ours is crazy fun, with games, education and community updates and news.
Most munches have organizers or greeters who look out for newcomers to try to give them a warm welcome and introduce them to some folks. Keep in mind these are just people (usually volunteers) and no one is perfect. Take some initiative and introduce yourself to someone to let them know you’re new. Most people will either introduce you to a greeter or do the job themselves. Kinksters are typically a friendly and welcoming bunch of people!
If you have questions, please reach out to one of the organizers. You will find us a the pool table at the Raven.
